I started keeping sketchbooks in 1973 in earnest for a drawing class and have been doing them ever since. I try to start every workday by meditating for 20 minutes and drawing in my sketchbook for an hour. I find that the meditation clears my mind and makes my drawing more measured and focused. Often I start without preconceived ideas and instead respond to the marks on the page. Other times I have an idea that I bring to the drawing session. What emerges by drawing daily is a rhythm. Some days it all falls together and other days it's a real struggle and it's those days when it all falls together that make it all worthwhile.
